ORA Technologies, a Moroccan super‑app founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Omar Alami, has closed a US $7.5 million Series A investment round. The funding was led by Azur Innovation Fund and backed by three additional strategic local investors.
Since its inception, ORA has now secured a total of US $11.9 million in locally sourced capital. This milestone marks the largest Series A funding secured by a Moroccan tech startup to date.
ORA’s app combines fintech and retailtech under one platform, offering features such as peer‑to‑peer payments, an e‑commerce marketplace, chat and social networking, on‑demand services, and ORA Cash, its digital wallet. The platform is part of the company’s wider vision of creating a comprehensive super‑app tailored for Moroccan users.
The proceeds from this round will accelerate ORA’s expansion of last‑mile logistics and its digital cash collection infrastructure. This investment comes at a critical time, as Morocco continues to rely heavily on a cash‑on‑delivery economy. ORA aims to digitise such cash flows and serve more users through its wallet and delivery services.
Active use metrics underscore ORA’s rapid growth: its food delivery arm, Kooul, serves over 15,000 active users within the past ten months, while ORA Cash has attained more than 50,000 registered users in just five months. Delivery riders are now using the app as a payment layer, helping to digitise daily cash flows across urban and rural areas.
Omar Alami described the funding success as a landmark achievement for Moroccan tech: it demonstrates that startups can access substantial growth capital from local investors rather than relying on foreign VC. He credited momentum to support from the Fonds Mohammed VI pour l’investissement, the Moroccan sovereign fund backing domestic innovation.
The raised capital will fuel delivery operations, expand wallet services, and support ORA’s aim to scale beyond Morocco. The company plans to deepen its presence in both urban and rural markets and explore regional expansion opportunities in North Africa and beyond.
This funding milestone positions ORA Technologies as a key driver of Morocco’s digital economy. As a homegrown super‑app blending payments, commerce, delivery, and social features, ORA represents a new model for inclusive tech services in the region.
