We begin with good news for the Health Sector as ‘Making More Health’ (MMH) is offering to invest £50,000 in late-stage trailblazing health tech startups in Africa. Targeting startups in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, the initiative aims to provide accessibility to healthcare around the world. This fund is however not only limited to people, as it also goes for solutions to animal health challenges as well. We reported late last year about Naspers intentions to divest from MultiChoice, the Entertainment Service Provider. It is finally happening as Bloomberg announced yesterday that Multichoice will be listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange by the 27th of February. Multichoice, which has a firm grasp of the African market has over 13 million subscribers to its services. However, traditional TV faces a strong competition from the Internet which offers cheaper services and a wider array of choices in entertainment. A lot have speculated that this competition is the real reason Naspers is divesting from Multichoice. What do you think?
South African Startup, RapidDeploy expands to the US to service growing demands in the region. RapidDeploy is a cloud-based platform that provides vital and relevant information to emergency first responders. This maximizes the chances of lives saved as every second matters in these kind of situations. They have set up their headquarters in Austin, Texas and they aim to add over 25 people to their workforce before March ending. We wish them all the best.
Finally, in the recent trend of Women holding senior Management positions in Tech Companies, we are pleased to announce that Liquid Telecom recently announced Susan Mulikita as its Zambian CEO. She will be tasked with the role of growth acceleration and market penetration across the country. Susan holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree, Master of Laws (ICT) and is a qualified practitioner of Telecoms/ICT, Law, Regulation and Management. She is the first woman to assume this position and we wish her all the best.
