Villgro Africa, in partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation, has opened applications for its Eye Health Innovation Accelerator 2026, a programme designed to support African startups developing scalable, tech-enabled solutions that improve access to eye care across Sub-Saharan Africa, organisers announced.
The accelerator seeks ventures that are legally registered in a Sub-Saharan African country and led by founders or senior executives residing in Africa. Eligible startups must offer a validated tech-enabled eye-health solution, including tools for screening, diagnosis, treatment, tele-ophthalmology, AI-driven platforms, data management systems or affordable assistive technologies, and demonstrate traction, partnerships or early revenue, organisers said.
Selected startups will receive technical assistance, mentorship and market access support, as well as eligibility for catalytic seed funding of between US $100,000 and $250,000, with the possibility of follow-on investment. The programme will also offer in-person bootcamps and peer-learning sessions designed to strengthen business models and investment readiness.
Organisers said the accelerator aims to accelerate high-impact ventures capable of expanding affordable, quality eye care services across low- and middle-income markets, particularly where avoidable vision impairment remains high and access to care limited.
Applications are open through 14 January 2026, with an information session scheduled for 17 December 2025 to guide prospective applicants, according to the accelerator’s call for applications.
Interested startups are required to submit a completed online application, including a company pitch deck and summary of existing traction, with optional demo videos or founder pitches to support their submissions.
