The IBM Sustainability Accelerator is a global pro bono social impact program that uses IBM technologies like hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence, as well as an ecosystem of experts, to improve and scale non-profit and government organization operations, with a focus on people who are vulnerable to environmental threats like climate change, extreme weather, and pollution.
A pilot project with three of the Sustainability Accelerator’s first participants was undertaken last year. Heifer International, for example, is collaborating with Google to develop sustainable agriculture solutions in Malawi.
Heifer International, which completed phase 1 of the project in December, is collaborating with IBM to develop scalable and cheap digital solutions that will provide weather and crop production forecasts to farmers’ cooperatives in Malawi, allowing them to boost their yields and incomes.
Following a two-phased strategy, the Sustainability Accelerator will provide support to each selected organization for two years.
The selection procedure is as follows:
Each year, IBM will establish a single theme for the RFP and project selection of the cohort’s organizations.
With the program’s official debut, non-profit organizations are asked to submit proposals to a public RFP for the 2022 cohort’s clean energy focus.
Proposals must be submitted using the company’s Submission Portal by April 30, 2022.
