Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta is creating “a new top-level product division” to embed generative Artificial intelligence technology into its services, which will be utilized by billions of people.

Meta is conducting experiments with AI tools that work with text, most likely ChatGPT-style chatbots on messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger.

While Zuckerberg’s immediate focus is on developing creative tools, his long-term ambition is to “create AI characters that can serve humans in a variety of ways.” He cautioned that the business still has a lot of preparation to make before it can offer people these “futuristic” experiences.

On WhatsApp and Messenger, the business is initially testing text-based AI tools that are probably ChatGPT-style conversational bots.

Ahmad Al-Dahle, a former Apple executive, will be in charge of the project, with Chris Cox, Chief Product Officer, in charge of the team.

These capabilities may be a source of revenue for Meta if the company were to market them to firms in need of improved sales and customer service.

Also, Meta is experimenting with “video and multimodal experiences,” as well as AI-powered Instagram effects and ad formats.

Some of Microsoft’s AI improvements can be found in the Bing search engine and the Edge web browser.

Last month, Google announced that it was testing a similar tool called Bard.

For its paid users, Snapchat has just released a chatbot that has been trained specifically for them.

With the goal of advancing artificial intelligence research, Meta introduced a new large language model last week called LLaMA.
