According to reports, Microsoft is in discussions to sign Amazon as a customer for its Microsoft 365 cloud productivity tools in a deal worth more than $1 billion.
Microsoft would benefit greatly from the deal, which would be among the biggest cloud software transactions in history.
The agreement is a turning point for the two titans of technology, who have historically been strong competitors and hardly worked together.
Currently, Amazon makes use of an on-premise, locally installed version of Microsoft’s Office suite. The company, however, is apparently planning on switching to Microsoft 365 in order to save money and increase productivity.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams are all part of the cloud-based productivity toolkit known as Microsoft 365. The suite is used worldwide by businesses of all sizes.
Amazon would rank among Microsoft 365’s biggest clients if the transaction is approved. Additionally, the agreement would be a clear indication of Microsoft’s expanding dominance in the cloud computing sector.
The agreement would also have significant financial and operational advantages for Amazon, which might result in cost savings.
