Ghanaian technology startups focused on social impact have been invited to apply for the sixth cohort of the UNICEF StartUp Lab, a six-month accelerator programme designed to support innovations that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) affecting children and young people, organisers said.
The call for applications, issued this month, opens the door for eligible Ghana-registered startups developing technology-driven solutions in areas such as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), child protection, education, healthcare, climate resilience, financial inclusion and urban technology. Selected ventures will benefit from intensive mentoring, industry-specific support, and access to UNICEF’s global network of partners.
Startups accepted into the programme will receive up to $6,000 in prototyping funding, while the top three performing teams will be awarded an additional $15,000 in scale-up funding to amplify their impact, organisers said. The initiative also offers guidance on aligning products with the SDGs and pathways toward recognition as UN-recognized Digital Public Goods.
Launched in 2019 and implemented in Ghana by UNICEF Ghana with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and MEST Africa, the StartUp Lab has supported dozens of tech startups in refining business models and expanding reach into key sectors over previous cohorts.
