The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced a global competition to find solutions that will transform the world’s energy landscape.
Several organizations, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), bp, Hub71, and the Net Zero Technology Center, have come together to back the Decarbonization Technology Challenge.
Launched in Abu Dhabi at the UAE Climate Tech Forum, the competition aims to find innovative technical approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In December of 2023, the ten finalists will each be given the opportunity to present their respective ideas to a panel of judges.
The winners will get up to $1 million (AED3,670,000) in piloting opportunities with ADNOC.
Startups that are ready to expand their operations and take on a larger market share in the areas of carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), alternative energies, lowering oil and gas emissions, using digital applications and technologically advanced materials for decarbonization, and finding solutions in nature are particularly invited to apply.
“We are delighted to launch the Decarbonization Technology Challenge alongside our partners,” said Musabbeh Al Kaabi, executive director of ADNOC’s Low Carbon Solutions and International Growth Directorate. ADNOC has earmarked $15 billion for landmark decarbonization projects by 2030, including carbon capture, electrification, new CO2 absorption technology, and enhanced investments in hydrogen and renewables. We look forward to nurturing companies with the most promising innovations that can help transform, decarbonize, and future-proof the global energy sector.”
In December 2023, the final will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Ten finalists will be invited to present their ideas to a group of experienced judges. Winners will have access to cutting-edge research and innovation facilities in Abu Dhabi in addition to obtaining up to $1 million (AED3,670,000) in piloting possibilities.
AWS, bp, and Hub71 are providing support for the competition, which is being delivered in collaboration with the Net Zero Technology Center.
It supports ADNOC’s plan to bring together cross-sectoral partners to discover novel and significant answers to quicken a responsible energy transition.
Additional funding, panel judges, and commercial support will be given to the winners by AWS, bp, and Hub71.
