Manchester City announced that they have released their own digital fan token.
The token that will give fans around the world access to VIP rewards, club promotions, games, and virtual reality-enabled features.
The $CITY Fan Token, which will be available on Socios.com, a fan engagement and rewards mobile app built on the Chiliz blockchain.
Also, it will grant supporters voting rights in certain binding and non-binding club polls, according to City.
In a statement, City Football Group senior vice-president of global partnerships sales Stephan Cieplik said, “We recognize the tremendous interest in blockchain and the potential it offers us to engage further our global fanbase.”
“… And we’re sure that the fan token will be a common addition to our digital portfolio.
“We’ve been very pleased with how Socios.com has led the way in this room with other European clubs, and we’re sure that we’ll be able to thrive and develop together.”
Other big European clubs that use fan tokens include Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Chiliz and Socios.com CEO Alexandre Dreyfus said, “The club has shown they are ahead of the pack in promoting innovation and will boost that status further with the $CITY Fan Token.”
The Socios.com app can be used to buy the Manchester City Fan Token. In due course, registered Cityzens will receive an offer to claim their free token through a voucher code.
