The fifth edition of Digital Lab Africa (DLA), Africa’s first mentorship and incubation program for innovative and digital content creators, opens for application.
DLA is seeking applications from artists, creators, designers, collectives, students, and entrepreneurs in the artistic and cultural industries from all over Sub-Saharan Africa.
Also, DLA aspires to incubate new talent by providing a platform for them to kick-start and drive their projects.
With the help and expertise of the DLA ecosystem.
The Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct at Wits University is leading and managing the project.
Which is funded by the AFD (Agence Française de Développement).
Immersive Experience, Video Games, Music, Animation, and Digital Art are the five main categories that the Pan-African accelerator focuses on.
However, SACEM, TRACE, TV5 Monde Afrique, and the French Embassy in Nigeria are among the partners in the five-year-old initiative launched by the French Institute in South Africa (IFAS).
Animation and immersive reality (XR) applications are now available and will close on 4 April.
While film, digital art, and music applications will be accepted between 17 May and 11 July.
DLA received over 500 applications from over 32 countries in 2020.
In addition, Digital Lab Africa is moving to an entirely online format for its fifth edition.
Moreover, the DLA#5 laureates’ incubation and mentorship programs will include only online activities.
Lesley Donna Williams, Chief Executive of Tshimologong Precinct, says the DLA applications represent the African continent’s vitality and uniqueness in the field of digital cultures and emerging technologies.
