An Explorer’s Paradise is a new online exhibition from Google Arts & Culture (GAC) and South Africa Tourism that enables tourists from all over the world to discover South Africa through a series of 500 photos and videos, 55 Street Views, and 20 exhibits.

This is the first step in a long-term alliance to honor South Africa Tourism, diverse people, rich cultural heritage, and beautiful landscapes.

COVID-19 has placed a strain on the tourism industry in South Africa and around the world, and the project allows viewers to digitally travel around the region.

Google South Africa country director Alistair Mokoena says, “South Africa has been aptly described as a microcosm of the world, a place where civilisations meet.” “South Africa is frequently referred to as “A world in one country” because of its breathtaking views, beautiful wildlife and unrivaled biodiversity, booming modern cities, and thriving economy.

“More than ten million people visited in 2019.” Arrivals in 2020 were slightly lower on average than in 2019 – for example, in October 2020, there were 91 percent fewer arrivals than in October 2019. We wanted to promote South Africa’s heritage and destinations in a unique way to entice people to visit in person as soon as possible,” Mokoena says.

“The Google Arts and Culture platform does an excellent job of raising visibility for the rest of the world to get a spectacular glimpse of South Africa, but what excites me even more is the partnership’s ability to expand the sector on the digital front,” said Sisa Ntshona, CEO of SA Tourism.

“We agree that digitally-led is the standard, and we aim to equip the sector with the requisite skills to succeed and adapt in a digital world through our partnership.”

“We’ve already started introducing some of Google’s offerings at our nationwide SMME seminars, and we’ll keep doing so and more throughout the year,” Ntshona added.

“We are ecstatic to announce that starting today, people will be able to digitally explore our country thanks to technology and our collaboration with Google Arts & Culture,” he adds.
