Twelve education technology startups have graduated from the third cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, concluding an eight-month acceleration programme designed to support ventures using technology to expand access to quality learning across Kenya and beyond, according to ecosystem reporting and organisers.
The cohort marked the culmination of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship implemented by iHUB Kenya, with a Demo Day event held in Nairobi that brought together founders, educators, investors and policymakers to showcase the startups’ progress and impact.
The graduating group included ventures focused on personalised learning, teacher development, school administration and offline learning solutions for low-connectivity environments. Startups in the cohort include AHA Innovate, Cloud School System, Digifunzi, Digiskool, Dignitas, Elimu Shop, iFunza, Infoney Solutions, M-Lugha, Nyansapo AI, Verb Education and Zydii.
Organisers said 75 per cent of the startups were led by women founders, highlighting a concerted emphasis on gender diversity and inclusive innovation in the education technology segment.
Over the acceleration period, the startups worked in parallel to refine their products and deploy technology-driven tools in classrooms and communities, with applications aimed at personalising learning, enhancing teacher effectiveness and improving access for learners in under-resourced areas.
Fellowship leadership and partners underscored the programme’s role in strengthening the local EdTech ecosystem and fostering solutions capable of addressing persistent education challenges. Executives said that post-programme support, including advisory and connections to capital, will continue as graduates begin their next phase of growth. The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship has supported successive cohorts of startups since its inception, with the programme designed to accelerate ventures that contribute to inclusive and impactful education outcomes through scalable technology solutions.
