Kaltani, a Nigerian clean-tech plastic waste recycling company, has raised $4 million in seed funding to boost its recycling operations throughout the nation.
With Kaltani’s technology, the entire value chain is transparent and traceable thanks to data analytics, predictive analytics, and geographic mapping.
It was founded in Nigeria by Engineer Obi Charles Nnanna in an attempt to combat the growing plastic waste crisis in Africa by promoting the circular economy and recycling best practices.
Over 100 people work at the startup’s collection centers, recycling plant, and offices, where they collect plastic bottles and other garbage for aggregation and processing before being delivered to the recycling factory for further processing.
“Plastic pollution is a global problem. It is an environmental crisis that is harming our oceans, aquatic life, the air we breathe, and our health because of plastic garbage. With plastic trash production expected to rise much further, the world urgently requires solutions that can be put into practice and scaled up. By demonstrating that our concept and solution perform effectively and efficiently across the whole A-Z value chain, we at Kaltani are more than ready to begin our expansion across Nigeria,” stated Nnanna.
The business wants to use the funding to open 20 new collecting and aggregation centers in Nigeria and to boost its workforce to over 500 workers.
