Investing in Innovation Africa (i3), a pan-African initiative dedicated to advancing healthcare access through technology, has announced the selection of seven growth-stage startups for its third cohort.

These companies are pioneering innovations aimed at revolutionizing pharmacy services across the continent.

The selected startups are:

  • MedPlus (Nigeria) – Specializes in AI-powered prescription refills and medication adherence solutions.

  • PharmaLink (Kenya) – Offers cloud-based pharmacy management systems for inventory and supply chain optimization.

  • MediPay (South Africa) – Provides embedded financing solutions for pharmacies and healthcare providers.

  • MediTrack (Uganda) – Utilizes blockchain technology for secure and transparent pharmaceutical supply chains.

  • PharmaGo (Ghana) – Delivers last-mile delivery services for pharmacies, ensuring timely access to medications.

  • MediGuard (Nigeria) – Focuses on counterfeit drug detection and prevention through advanced analytics.

  • PharmaNet (Kenya) – Develops integrated platforms connecting pharmacies with healthcare professionals for better patient outcomes.

These startups were selected based on their innovative approaches to enhancing pharmacy services, including inventory management, product protection, last-mile delivery, AI-powered prescription refills, embedded financing, and cloud-based pharmacy systems. Their solutions aim to make essential care more accessible, affordable, and safer for patients across Africa.

The i3 program provides each selected startup with up to $225,000 in flexible grants, introductions to potential customers, and tailored counsel to close partnership deals. The initiative is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, MSD, Cencora, Endless Foundation, HELP Logistics, Sanofi’s Global Health Unit, and Chemonics. The program is coordinated by Salient Advisory and the Solina Center for International Development and Research (SCIDaR).

Since its inception, i3 has empowered 60 African health innovators across 16 countries, providing $3 million in direct grants, facilitating 450 strategic connections, and resulting in over $11 million in contracted partnerships. Nearly 1,000 jobs have been created, half of which were held by women.

The third cohort’s focus on growth-stage startups reflects i3’s commitment to scaling impactful solutions that address critical healthcare challenges in Africa. By supporting these innovators, i3 aims to enhance patient access to quality healthcare services and contribute to the continent’s economic development.
