In Egypt, it was announced 2 days ago that Alexandria city recently concluded a 3-month pilot using an electric bus as a means for public transport. Currently the Head of the General Authority for Passenger Transport in Alexandria, Major General Khalid Eliwa said that the Ministry of Defence are now studying and evaluating the results and once they are done, they will be made available.
Provided by BYD, a Chinese automobile manufacturer — the buses are said to be environmental-friendly as they cause considerably less pollution than traditional engines. The first electric bus was brought in 2018 after Egypt’s Passengers Transportation Authority entered into a deal with BYD. The results of the pilot are yet to be known however, if successful, BYD will produce more for Alexandria City.

BYD has expressed its plans to not only assemble electric cars and buses in Egypt but also to build a monorail, known as the BYD SkyRail that will pass through Alexandria city and this will go a long way in developing the solar energy sector.
According to the Major General, plans have been made to convert over two hundred diesel buses to electric vehicles.
