Four African start-ups, two each from Ghana and Nigeria are expected to participate at the fifth cohort PeaceTech Accelerator in Washington DC.

The PeaceTech Accelerator is a program run by UK-based tech investment firm, C5 Accelerate, together with Amazon Web Services. PeaceTech Lab and SAP NS2, was established to scale start-ups on the cloud and solve problems relating to peace, stability and security worldwide.

The four start-ups include: proptech Muster and Coven Works – both from Nigeria and, Devless and Jetstream Africa from Ghana.

South Sudanese games developer, Junub Games who have earlier appeared in Cohort one and South Africa music streaming start-up, Nichestreem have gone through the accelerator program.

C5 Accelerate COO, Eva-Maria Dimitriadis was quoted to have said the selected four African start-ups in the cohort are testament to the “strengthening ecosystem” of tech entrepreneurs on the continent.

In total, eight start-ups have been selected to join the accelerator programme, with the four other start-ups hailing from Pakistan, the US and the UK.

“This current cohort of PeaceTech start-ups are tackling challenges as diverse as delivering high-tech job training for marginalised youths, to providing blue collar workers access to the digital economy, to enabling small farmers to reach international markets. It’s inspiring to work alongside such a talented group of social impact entrepreneurs,” C5 Accelerate programme director, Mike Ravenscroft said.

As part of the programme, C5 Accelerate has invested $25, 000 for a five percent equity stake in the participating start-ups.
