Google Chrome 70 will be unveiled in the coming weeks and may block many secure websites with old certificates.
Chrome 70 is an updated version of Chrome browser and it comes with some cool features that will enable improved security on some devices.
Chrome 70 is to be released on or before October 16, when the browser will start blocking sites that run older Symantec certificates issued before June 2016, including legacy branded Thawte, VeriSign, Equifax, GeoTrust and RapidSSL certificates.
Security researcher, Scott Helme has found 1,139 sites in the top one million sites ranked by Alexa will be affected despite being given a year’s notice to prepare for the change.

HTTPS certificates encrypt the data between your computer and the website or app you’re using, making it almost impossible for anyone — even on your public Wi-Fi hotspot — to intercept your data. HTTPS certificates also prove the integrity of the site you’re visiting by ensuring the pages haven’t been modified in some way by an attacker.
The reason for this shift is that Google and other companies said Symantec issued misleading and wrong certificates.
