Nigerian based cyber security teams NaijaSecForce and Ek0pwn3rs have been selected to represent Africa at the Global Cyberlympics.
The Global Cyberlympics is a hands-on cybersecurity team competition that brings together the best ethical hackers from around the world to compete in a series of challenges such as forensics, penetration testing, cryptography, malware analysis – capture the flag challenges.
NaijaSecForce and Ek0pwn3rs were picked after defeating 24 other African teams from Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, Sudan and Ghana, to finally emerge first and second in the overall competition.
According to a communique released by the organizer, “judging was based on the speed at which systems were hacked, the number of vulnerabilities found, challenges solved or flags found and the techniques used to uncover and exploit them.”
The NaijaSecForce team is being led by Rotimi Akinyele and has Oluwaeseun Oyelude from PwC Nigeria; Funmipe Olofinlade from eSentry Systems Limited; Eyitemi Egbejule from Python Software Foundation Fellow; Shuaib Oladigbolu from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology; and Rajesh TV from Encode.
Ek0pwn3rs, led by Abimbola Jaiyeola has in its team Chinedu Onwukike from IBM, Canada; Chidi Obum from Cyberinfocts; Olalekan Ismail from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology; Oladipupo Oyediji from PhynxLabs; and Adetutu Ogunsowo from Digital Jewels Limited.

“Both teams have been selected to represent the Africa at the finals, holding on September 13, 2018 in Atlanta, United States of America. They will be competing with the winners from other continents and the top cybersecurity professionals across the globe,” the statement read.
NaijaSecForce team is the brain behind NaijaSecCon — Nigeria’s foremost technical cybersecurity conference which holds annually. They are also the organisers of the annual Capture-The-Flag ethical hacking competition for students of Nigerian tertiary institutions as well as the organisers of the monthly #NSCLagos meet-up — a monthly meet-up for cybersecurity learning, education and awareness.
