The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) said it has streamlined and automated its processes as it aims to fast-track the Government’s IT Projects.
This clearance process is intended to “track Government spending in IT and ensure synergy in National investments, according to Director General/CEO, Isa Pantami in a statement directed to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Government-owned companies, and other government establishments.
It is to ensure the availability of accurate statistics on Government’s IT assets and Investments to help them make informed IT decisions. This tally with the agency mandate to control the practice of Information Technology (IT) in the public sector, and issued statements in November 2016 demanding Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other Federal Government establishments to submit for clearance IT Projects to be executed before the commencement of such projects.

National Information Technology Development Agency is a public service institution recognised by NITDA Act 2007 as the ICT policy implementing division of the Federal Ministry of Communication in Nigeria. It has the responsibility of developing programs that manage the ICT activities in the country. It has also authorised with the implementation of policies guideline for driving ICT in Nigeria.
Patanmi claims the process will prevent mishandling of public funds and development of projects in silos where significant resources can be integrated to save costs, promote shared services, interoperability and improve efficiency.
In addition, it is to ensure that the technology being implemented is up to date and suitable for the country from a security and environmental point of view.
