Solar system in Kenya has gone beyond lighting and phone charging to visuals as Azuri Technologies, a company based in Kenya unveiled its 32-inch solar satellite system for customers across Africa. Azuri Technologies is a pay-as-you-go solar technology provider.

Azuri’s Solar TV with satellite entertainment was launched in 2016 and will be launched first in Kenya at KSH129 per day. However, it will be released into other Sub-Saharan African markets later in the year.

Simon Brainsfield-Garth mentioned three obstacles that bridges access to television for off-grid consumers and they were; access to power, high up-front cost of installation and service coverage. The Azuri products addresses all three.

“Azuri’s vision is one that sees a level playing field where all consumers have the ability to benefit from modern products and services, regardless of where they live. Solar TV provides a range of important social benefits including access to news and information and unprecedented connectivity for people without access to power,” he said.

The Solar TV will require customers to make small weekly payments through mobile money to access the system’s power.  This easy payment service will enable customers to access a wide range of modern digital services like; micro-insurance and media content.

The 32-inch Solar TV comes with 4 high brightness LED lights, mobile phone charging and a rechargeable torch and radio.  There are also over 60 satellite TV channels and more than 20 radio channels that come with the package.

In other to ensure durability and to meet the conditions of rural environments, the TV features Azuri ToughScreen technology; this is designed to resist accidental damage during normal use in the home.
