South African data-based Platform, WhereIsMyTransport – which gathers mobility and transport data from different cities around the world — recently raised $1.85m in a Series A funding round.
Established in 2016, this marks the third funding round WhereIsMyTransport will receive as it had earlier secured 2 funding rounds in 2017. This new funding was Led by Liil Ventures and it includes longtime investor, Goodwell investments and it comes just after the platform announced that it was expanding its data mapping services into India and Latin America, both new and emerging markets.
Off this expansion, which has so far been facilitated by Liil Ventures and Goodwell Investments, WhereIsMyTransport managed to wrap up 2018 with its most extensive project yet—they collected a full integrated formal and informal dataset for public transport in the metropolitan area of Mexico City. A feat that is considered to be the World’s most complete data gathered.

Devin de Vries, who is a Co-Founder and also, the CEO at WhereIsMyTransport was very excited about the funding round. “Not only are we strategically aligned, Liil also brings significant go-to-market value in the Latin American market, and a complimentary portfolio including Cabify and What3Words” He said.
Liil Ventures, likewise share this sentiment as their investment principal, Nadim Matuk Villazón feels WhereIsMyTransport is instrumental to city development, especially in emerging cities.
“WhereIsMyTransport is a promising team of global urban innovators that helps governments in emerging markets to improve public transport networks and invest in better mobility services for everyone,” He said. WhereIsMyTransport hopes to funnel this fund into further expansion.
