In order to increase financial inclusion and tax compliance in Zambia — MTN Mobile Money, Barclays Bank Zambia Plc and the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) are working towards launching a mobile tax payment for Mobile Money customers.

With this new plan, MTN Mobile Money customers can remit their ZRA taxes on their mobile phones on a system that is powered by Barclays Bank Zambia Plc. Also, customers will be able to transfer money from their Barclays accounts to their mobile wallets and pay the taxes anywhere, anytime.

Charles Molapisi, MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer, maintained that “to drive MTN Mobile Money’s next phase of growth, we have partnered with ZRA and Barclays to allow Mobile Money customers to remit their domestic taxes such as Turnover Tax, Base Tax, Income Tax, Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax and Pay as You Earn Tax.”

In the last three years, Barclays has invested K43 million in technology to ensure that their customers and stakeholders enjoy world class banking solutions that are easy and convenient to use.

ZRA Commissioner-Finance, Brigitte Muyenga further stressed that, “In this era of technology innovations, ZRA will continue to leverage on technology and has embarked on introducing robust mechanisms that are centered on taxpayers’ needs.”
