Microsoft, Schlumberger, and Chevron have entered the biggest energy sector partnership to accelerate the creation of innovative digital and Petrotechnical technologies, globally. The partnership was announced during the recently concluded Software Integrated Solutions (SIS) Global forum held in Monaco.
The partnership was spurred by the need to extract data for multinationals in the energy sector, which was seemingly difficult. Thus, the trio will work together to build Azure-naive applications. These apps will be built in the Chevron-owned DELFI cognitive E&P environment.
SIS Global forum is a biennial tech event that brings together over 800 tech companies to deliberate on the latest innovation in the energy sector and a platform for future collaborations. Its 2019 forum was tagged “The Future is Open”.
DELFI cognitive E&P environment is a collaborative technology that unites the Exploration and Production life cycle in the cloud. It is secure, scalable and open. It is used to connect people, data and leading software applications across exploration, development, drilling production and midstream sector.

With the launch of the new application, the companies will be able to process, visualize, interpret and ultimately, obtain meaningful insights from multiple data sources. The new technology will create more prospects for data generation and help the energy sector amplify large data into a simpler form.
The partnership will be achieved in three phases. It will begin with the deployment of a petrochemical suite in the DELFI environment. This will be followed by the launch of cloud-native applications on Azure, and the co-innovation of a suite of cognitive computing native compatibilities across the E&P value-chain-tailored Chevron’s objectives.
The parties will ensure the software developments meet the latest standards in terms of security, performance, release management, and are compatible with the Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) Data Platform
The chief executive officer of Schlumberger, Said Oliver stated that the partnership will combine the expertise of the three global enterprises to create a vastly improved and digitally-enabled petrochemical workflow. This, to Said, will accelerate innovations and enable the trio to strengthen performances.
