Once every year, AfriLabs holds its Annual Gathering to bring together the members of its growing network of 50-strong tech hubs.
The purpose of this event is to bring together these tech hubs to allow them to share their expertise and successful practices and the hopes of helping them establish new relationships.
This year’s Annual gathering will be held in Cairo, Egypt from October 18th to the 20th.
AfriLabs has just recently joined together with the international development organization known as Hivos’ Co-working Summit. The two organizations will co-host both events jointly and will include the delegates from both initiatives.
The theme of the joint event will be “Future of Cities: Innovation, Spaces, and Collaboration.”
The theme will focus on engaging Big Data and Internet-of-Things applications with the purpose of improving certain aspects in daily life which include data analytics, water/waste management, buildings & infrastructure, energy management, transport, cyber security, and more.
During the two-day event, there will be three sessions that will be hosted by AfriLabs new partner, Facebook. These sessions will center on the topics of Facebook Developer Circles, Facebook for Develop Platform, and FbStart.
All the events held by Facebook will be free for all of those participants attending the event.
The head of Facebook in the Middle East and Africa platform partnerships, Emeka Afigbo said, “We are thrilled to support the AfriLabs Annual Gathering in Egypt this year. With its success in building a community around the rapid expansion of tech hubs across Africa, AfriLabs is strongly poised to accelerate innovation by opening the dialogue to diverse ideas and experiences.”
