The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology in Tanzania and Meru Technical College from Kenya has won the $50000 prize money for the Africa Tech Challenge.
The Africa Tech Challenge 2019 was held in Nairobi Kenya. Other contestants from Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Zambia went home with more than $100000 grant and several scholarship awards. The Kenyan college came first, followed by the Tanzanian, and Gabon was the second runner up.
The prize money will be used to develop their ideas into “Made in Africa products to be exported to China. This will be in collaboration with Avic International, the Chinese firm that co-organized the competition in partnership with Kenya’s Ministry of Education.

Another highlight of the competition was the scholarship awarded to students from the Kenyan and Tanzanian colleges. Both Apollo Godwin and Christopher Mbembela were selected from Dar es Salaam, and Oscar Kimathi Kithinji from Meru. All three were awarded full scholarships to study in China.
During the competition, Kenya Technical College, Kabete National Polytechnic and Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology each received the $5000 worth Jin Yetao Scholarship, in memory of the late CEO of Avic International.
