The Nigerian startup DeliveryBros launched its e-courier app in Lagos and Abuja. The startup also plans to expand to Nairobi and Accra within the coming weeks.
The app allows its users to select their pick-up and drop-off locations, get timing and fare estimates, request a courier and pay using your established e-wallet with either cash or credit.
The startup itself started back in January of last year as a courier firm that used its own motorbikes to make deliveries. They soon saw this method unrealistic for scaling, as its no realistic to be able to cover all of Lagos without an absurd amount of motorbikes.
The company thus decided to sell all its delivery vehicles and re-launched with a more logical Uber-style approach which created a network of carriers all over the city.
Abiodun Animashaun, the co-founder of DeliveryBros, said, “We were able to create a program that helped these mostly unemployed youths with funding to get their motorbikes. After training we match them with customers who have requested delivery services via our mobile app or website.”
DeliveryBros’ app connects users to the nearest available dispatch rider. Each rider can carry any item for delivery to anywhere in Lagos and Abuja. The app also offers services that ensure efficiency such as auto-request, auto-routing, payment, and tracking.
The app also has a secure e-wallet system where customers and merchants both can pre-pay certain amounts to receive discounted deliveries and referral bonuses.
So far, the startup has been self-funded mostly, while only obtaining a small funding amount from She Leads Africa. Despite that, the startup has seen strong uptake and success.
