Founded by both Chad Robertson and Nkazimlo Miti in South Africa, Regenize provides two recycling methods; customers can either have it collected for a monthly fee or drop it off for free!
The customers of Regenize are then rewarded with virtual currency that is based on the weight of what they recycled. The virtual currency can be spent on the mobile voucher platform. Vouchers can range anywhere from groceries to clothing or even to airtime.
These brilliant cofounders of Regenize began this startup as a means of making a difference across Africa. Not only do the hands of Regenize reward their customers who recycle, but they also reach out to the youth across Africa to educate them about the importance of recycling.
Regenize continues to grow and learn through researching and designing new ways that the residents can reuse waste products. They, at Regenize, describe themselves as the ‘evangelists of recycling.’ Without a doubt, the company proves to be way more than just an average recycling company.
Robertson explained that there was a strong lack of recycling in residential areas in Africa. Innovation in the recycling field is very scarce. The recycling companies that currently exist within the continent of Africa only focus on assisting other companies.
The government is the only source responsible for addressing the recycling needs for the entirety of the people throughout Africa. That’s why Regenize has taken it upon themselves to work towards motivating the people of Africa the benefits of recycling while adding benefits of their own.
The company is only self-funded for now, but plans to expand past the seven areas of Cape Town that it currently operates in. The company was only founded last November and the response has thus far been slow, but positive.
With a good purpose, Regenize presses forward spreading the awareness and benefits of recycling to South Africans.
