Playfre — a Nigeria based African music service has launched SongRoute, a new service that would help African artists monetize their work. The new service will be a means for African artists to sell their music online with the services of a music aggregator.

The new feature encompasses services like Playlist Pitching, Global Music Distribution, YouTube Monetization, Marketing, Piracy Protection, iTunes Carousel Pitching, and other important services. These services, however, can only be accessed by registered artists. The registration will grant them access to sell their music online via platforms like Playfre, iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon, Deezer, etc. free of charge.

Chika Nwaogu, the CEO of Playfre Africa said that he is pleased with the fact that the platform is growing rapidly every day. He said Playfre was built with the intention to help struggling artists promote their music to listeners. According to him, SongRoute will be a broader means to not just help artists sell their songs across the globe, but to also promote their songs on over 400 plus music stores for free.

Playfre was launched on the 1st of May 2019. It offers its users across Africa access to over 45 million songs for free. Since inception, the service has recorded about 2000 registered users and over 150,000 streams. SongRoute is currently available in Kenya and Nigeria with plans to expand soon.
