Kangpe Health, founded in July 2015 by three Nigerian entrepreneurs; Femi Kuti, Ope Olumeken and Matthew Mayaki, with the intention of helping people find and book medical appointments with doctors in any location in Africans within 5 working days. Kangpe is a health platform that allows Africans to contact doctors remotely through their mobile devices. The platform was created to bridge the gap between doctors and patients, allowing users ask health related questions anonymously and get their answers from real and verified doctors in less than 10 minutes.

Having worked as a doctor in the Nigeria Health Sector, Femi Kuti together with three of his friends, Femi, Ope and Matthew partnered together to launched Kangpe. Femi conceived this idea because friends and patients would constantly contact him via text about their symptoms and decided to turn the free advice he was giving out into something lucrative.

People access Kangpe by launching the mobile app on either a simple or smartphone and typing in medical questions. Medical staff will then answer those questions for a small fee in what 10 minutes should be or less or refer the customer to a doctor who can help them further. Kangpe currently operates in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya as well, potentially serving a combined population of roughly 245 million people at the moment.

The platform also helps its users arrange consultations with Gynecologist, Cardiologist, Pediatrician, Dermatologist and all other kinds of medical specialists across the country.

How Kangpe Health is Impacting Africa

Africa has the lowest doctor to patient ratio in the world as many of the qualified medical personnels travel out of the country to practice, thus many Africans do not have the means to regularly access a doctor and those with the means endure inefficient hospital systems. This situation makes it difficult for Africans to get the right information to live healthier lives and allows the widespread propagation of misleading information, worsening an already dire health situation as people do not have the right information to take the right action.

So far, Kangpe has provided over 50,000 answers to its subscribers. Kangpe has had positive effect on people’s lives as now, people can find solutions to those deep seated but embarrassing issues they wouldn’t otherwise have a medium to solve. It has created a healthier society due to the fact that people can now access healthcare at a speed faster than they could in the past.

Kangpe doctors are able to give medical advices for symptoms, disease diagnosis and treatment when users describe their health condition in a detailed manner. Take for instance, a patient has a condition they want to make a consultation for, they will be asked several questions regarding the ailment, the conditions that aggravate it, the medications that have been taken for its relief & the duration of previous treatments and other questions which help the doctors to define what the treatment should be like.

For Africa, Kangpe is creating a healthier society due to the fact that people can now access healthcare at a speed faster than they could in the past using technology to connect patients with verified doctors via SMS, mobile app and web 24 hours a day.
