Strive Masiyiwa & Melinda Gates has unveiled a new Digital Manifesto that will boost technology transformation in emerging economies. The manifesto was launched under the umbrella of the Pathway for Prosperity Commission in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Pathways for Prosperity is a commission launched in 2018 to promote technology and comprehensive growth in developing countries. The commission champions tech inclusivity via its tagline ‘Inclusion ready’ in a digital age.

It also believes in wiring nations to be digitally connected and inclusive for all.

Meanwhile, over the past two years, the commission has researched Ethiopia, Bangalore, Mongolia, and other developing economies. On this research, the commission formed the Digital Manifesto to help set the technology agenda for emerging economies.

The digital manifesto, therefore, seeks to ensure digital growth and become a force for inclusive development in these countries.

The Group Founder and CEO Econet, Strive Masiyiwa acknowledges the power of digital technologies and its ability to grow businesses and nations alike.

However, he noted there is need to have a visionary policy that will train citizens and keep them abreast of virtual opportunities. The inability to achieve this vision will lead to loss of jobs, financial exclusion amidst others.

The Co-chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda Gates also acknowledged the huge gender disparity in the tech ecosystem. She opined that bridging the gender inequality gap for women and girls will help these countries tap into new potentials and build dynamic economies.

In addition to the above, the agenda also calls the government to participate in the digital revolution and championed the digital agenda.

The commission took the step further beyond the Digital Manifesto to create a Digital Economy Toolkit that will aid the development of emerging economies’.

We hope this tool kit and the digital manifesto, will bring a new spring of hope to the tech ecosystem.
