Thanks to the team of Qwicart, a mobile app that allows Ugandan citizens to shop online for their groceries from a large selection of different supermarkets.

Qwicart was officially launched in the middle of last year by two veteran entrepreneurs. Moses Byaruhanga, one of the cofounders of Qwicart, was formerly the CEO of Cheki Uganda. His business partner and other co-founder of Qwicart is Joshua Mugisha. He used to run a business called Brighter Monday.

The mobile app runs on both Android and iOS. Its growth has been quick, with already over 700 downloads with around 60% usage.

The Qwicart team plans on bringing in 17 more mainstream grocery stores into their service by August of this year, which adds to the 8 that they already have onboard.

The team’s target market are the citizens of Uganda that must painstakingly walk to and from the 540 supermarkets across the central region of Uganda. Research by the team had shown that there are 250 walk-ins daily to these grocery stores.

This new app takes were all the plans of having to travel to and from the grocery store and it also saves time out of the day for Ugandan citizens. All people must do is press a few buttons and the groceries will be delivered directly to their doorstep.

This also saves them the trouble of having to search their store after store in search of a specific product they need. All nature of products can be found and ordered online through this app.

The main difficulty that the company faces is that the integration of digital innovation into different markets is rather slow to pick up. Many people are still trying to understand the benefits of their functionality.
