Ugandan based health start-up, BreastIT has been selected among the five finalist innovations for the 2018 Pistoia Alliance President’s Start-up Challenge. The innovation is a portable diagnosis tool for breast abnormalities like cancer and other diseases that affect the breast.
BreastIT is a portable glove with piezoelectric crystals on the palm of the hand that produce ultrasound to screen for breast cancer that comes handy with a software app that does the diagnosis.
BreastIT team is led by Chief Executive and Co-Founder; Moris Atwine, Alvin Kabwama, and David Mwesigwa, and will pitch their start-up to the Pistoia Alliance membership in Boston on October 10, 2018.

The winning start-up stands a chance of winning a cash prize of USD$20,000 and all five finalists would receive USD$5,000.
Also, the finalists will have a chance to meet industry leaders and investors during the conference in Boston while the final two winners will receive 6 months of mentorship and support from a leading industry expert.
Other start-up to participate in the challenge include: Clarity Genomics, Riffyn, uFraction8, and UniteLabs. The challenge is focused on start-ups that aim at impacting the way life science R&D is performed.
