BBC Africa has selected three teams for its ‘Beyond Fake News’ hackathon which held at Andela’s Kenya office. The three finalists include Team Thibitisha, Team SeeTheLight as well as Team iCODEAI and they will receive 6 months of mentorship from Safaricom’s Alpha Innovation Lab.


Fixxr, a mobile car repair platform has won R500, 000 from IBM after pitching at the conclusion of a four-week bootcamp programme organised by IBM and the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct.


Ugandan based micro-pension service and e-wallet platform, Four One Financial Services also recently won the Best Catapulter Award from Catapult: Inclusion Africa. This is a bootcamp on financial inclusion put together by the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT) Foundation.


Moving on, the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa has launched the first series of 12 hackathons under its Ethiopia Hacks! Program. The hackathon program will be conducted in partnership with the Google Developers Group (GDG- Addis) and the Centre for Women’s Economic Environment (CAWEE).


Civic Hive has announced the second edition of its Civic Hive Fellowship Programme. The fellowship program was officially launched in 2017 and this year’s programme will focus on Transparency/Accountability, Civic Participation, and Institutional Efficiency in Nigeria.
