Big gist! US tech giant – Google has cut off the World’s third-largest telephone company, Huawei from its OS support system. This was due to an ‘Entity List’ released by the US government, which banned the Huawei from importing US hardware and Software without the government approval. Future phones from Huawei will no longer have access to Google Play Store and Play services, amongst other services that Google provide. Will Huawei survive this?
On innovation, Cisco, a US-based company that manufactures and sells networking hardware, telecommunications equipment and other high-technology services and products, has plans to train up to 1 million African youths by 2025. They recently launched Cisco EDGE—an incubation centre. Over 700,000 youths are already on board.
Engie an energy company has been chosen by Orange Services Group (GOS) an arm of Orange to handle their data centre in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Engie will lead the operation and maintenance of the data centres. They will also implement preventive maintenance of all the data centre buildings.
CorTEX Group—a strategy and technology consulting firm launched a new arm that will focus on startups that need early-stage funding for Artificial Intelligence ‘CorTEX’. The fund will only be accessed by startups, innovators and entrepreneurs that depend on AI technologies like Data Science, Machine Learning, or Deep Learning.
Finally, Nigeria’s early stage fintech startup Ferrum Network and Nigerian blockchain venture capital firm TLG Ventures have partnered to build Kudi.Exchange, a digital exchange payment gateway. The platform will allow users to trade bitcoin and other digital assets without the need for a third party. All users would be able to transact using Bitcoin/Naira or Ethereum/Naira pairs.
