As usual, the Big 5 daily brings you the latest trend in the tech scene across Africa. We have quite a lot of great news from West Africa and other regions.
Nigeria’s Fintech company, Flutterwave has completed a Series A Extension round of financing from Mastercard, CRE Ventures, Fintech Collective, 4DX Ventures, and Raba Capital, among others.
In the same vein, Iyin Aboyeji has stepped aside as Flutterwave CEO to pursue family goals and will be replaced by Olugbenga Agboola, who is also a Flutterwave Co-Founder.
In another development from Nigeria, Accounteer is expected to launch an office in Kenya after passing the 10,000-user mark. The start-up which provides online accounting services for small businesses was launched in 2015 by Merijn Campsteyn. It allows users to create invoices, track expenses and register payments, among other things.
Kenya, Nigeria and Other African Tech Companies Make 2018 TIME’s Genius Companies List… At least, Six tech firm from Africa have been announced alongside Apple Inc., Netflix and SpaceX in 2018 TIME’s 50 Genius Companies list. TIME’s first list of Genius Companies; a compilation of businesses the magazine’s network of editors believe are inventing the future.
In another similar news, Forbes has ranked Safaricom 67th best company in the world while Nasper from South Africa ranked 224 out of 500 best companies in the world. Alphabet, Microsoft and Apple topped Forbes’ 2018 World’s Best Employers’ list.
Winding down on the momentum, MTN Nigeria became the biggest winner at the 2nd edition of the Nigeria Tech Innovation & Telecom Awards (NTITA), 2018. The ICT company carted home five (5) awards – Telecom Company of the year, Social Impact Award, Digital Transformation Award, Customer Experience Award and Telcom CEO of the year awards.
