Kenya to Host First Africa Web Rangers Summit…The Web Rangers Summit is coming to Africa for the first time and it will be hosted in the East African country of Kenya. The summit is aimed at spreading awareness about internet safety and promoting responsible digital citizenship Africa.
Exciting news from South Africa, Yoco has secured R248-million (US$16-million) from different international and local investors. The fund was raised in a Series-B round led by Partech, a venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley, Europe and Africa.
Other investors who participated in the round are; Orange Digital Ventures, FMO (the Dutch Development Bank), South African-based FutureGrowth, and existing Series-A investors Quona Capital and Velocity Capital.
Meanwhile, the international remittance service, World Remit has launched a new digital money transfer service which will be unveiled in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. This service is expected to reduce the cost of sending money across borders which has been a major hurdle to regional integration.
During the recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation where the Chinese President, Xi Jinping announced $60 billion for development projects in Africa over the next three years, the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo took advantage of the opportunity to hold a meeting with the Chairman of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma. His request was simple and smart. He wants Alibaba’s Africa Operations to be headquartered in Ghana. Good news soon Ghana? We await.
