South African venture capital firm,Knife Capital has announced the 12 companies that will be participating in the fourth cohort of its Grindstone Accelerator programme. This programme aims to help position SA companies to become more investable, sustainable and exit-ready.
The selected companies include an online shopping assistant, a smart security platform and an insurtech company.
SonoCare, Nigerian health start-up for females has raised US$250,000 in funding from Gray Matters Capital to scale its operations. SonoCare will use this fund to develop a mobile app and deploy more mobile units for catering to 200,000 pregnancies by 2020.

In Kenya, Japanese insurance group called Sompo Holdings has acquired a 10 percent stake in the country’s digital currency exchange and payments company, Bitpesa for $5.02 million. This deal will further digitize the insurer’s international remittance service.
News from the other side of the tech opined that American e-commerce platform, Amazon suffered a data breach just two days before their Black Friday deal. This data leak included customer names and email addresses.
The company refused to give details on the number of people affected but it said it has sent out email to affected customers.
