Wakanow has confirmed that it has closed an investment fund from the Carlyle Group Carlyle Sub-Saharan Africa fund (CSSAF) – for a new cash infusion worth $40 million. The online travel company focused on West and East Africa, with major operations in Nigeria. Other equity from Carlyle’s Sub-Saharan Africa fund and further financial details were not disclosed.
Kenyan AI start-up, LINC is among the 11 companies that will receive Microsoft’s AI for Earth Innovation Grant. The start-up was selected from 200 entries and will receive between $45,000 to $200, 000 to support projects as well as Microsoft Azure and AI tools and affiliations with the NGS Labs.
Africa’s cross-border commerce platform, WaystoCap has expanded into logistic and local sales recently as well as expanding to two West African countries – Burkina Faso and Togo, the start-up had confirmed to MENAbytes.
Huawei has graduated 21 trainees after reporting the launching of an ICT training centre at the Customer Service Innovation Centre (CSIC), in their Ghanaian Headquarters. The training kicked off on the 3rd of December and ended on the 19th of December. It is expected to develop Ghana’s ICT talent pool as well as giving industries the opportunity to enhance and polish their ICT skills.
Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has given consent to the Principles of the Cyber Protection, Data Protection, and Electronic Transactions Bill. This is to assist on what really is and isn’t cybercrime. Although, Social groups are already criticising the bill, it will be argued when it goes to parliament.
