Drum roll! Wasla, a mobile web browser startup based in Egypt is planning to promote mobile internet access for 500 million emerging entrepreneurs. It will leverage its recently secured $1 million funding round to boost the project in the coming years.
Guess what? 11 African startups have been selected to pitch at the Africa Tech Summit going on in Kigali, Rwanda. The selected startups include; OkwuEco, HouseAfrica, Limestart, ThankUCash and Riby, MarketForce, M-Lugha App, The Awareness Company, BAG Innovation, M-omulimisa and Talents Africa.
We also have news that UNCDF (The United Nations Capital Development Fund) collaborated with BongoHive Innovation and Technology Hub to select five Zambian startups for the Fintech4U cohort. The startups include; SafePay Zambia, Digital PayGo, Aretech, Edupay and Virtual Space.
Also, 14 North African startups made it to the semifinal stage of the MIT Enterprise Forum. They will be competing with 26 other startups for a $120,000 equity free fund.
Finally, Bolt (formerly Taxify) has secured €50 million to boost its global expansion plans. Bolt received the fund from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
