Guess what? The United Kingdom Royal Academy of Engineering have shortlisted 16 African Engineer Entrepreneurs for the Africa Prize for Engineering innovation. They will participate in an 8-month support training. The winner will receive £25,000, while the other three runners up will receive £10,000.
Next on the Big 5, MultiChoice Group owners of DSTV has revealed their plans to roll out a DSTV dishless streaming service in 2020. The standalone dishless service is slated for March 2020.
Drum roll! Nigeria-based edtech platform uLesson has secured $3.1 million seed funding to expand across West Africa. The funding was ahead of their launch slated for February 2020.
Also, in a bid to upsurge the digital economy of East Africa, Ethiopia has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Alibaba Group. The MoU will create an Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP).
Finally, Google, Facebook, Twitter etc. have supported Tim Berner-Lee’s contract for the web principles. The principles aim to keep the ‘web fit’ while preventing the internet from sliding into “digital dystopia”.
