Thisisme, Cellulant and WalletNG Included in 2018 KPMG Global Fintech100 List… The list is meant to highlight dynamic FinTech Startups around the world transforming the financial services industry ranging from digital payments and lending, to insurtech, to neo-banking.
In this year’s list, South Africa’s Thisisme, Kenya’s Cellulant and Nigeria’s WalletNG are the only 3 start-ups from Africa to make the list.
Demo Africa has announced five start-ups for their 7th edition of DEMO Africa 2018 in Casablanca, Morocco. The start-ups were selected out of the 30 finalists and they include: Chefaa (Egypt), Khourtim (Morocco), VertoFX (Nigeria), Hawkar (Tunisia) and Complete Farmer (Ghana). The winners will join other international start-ups in Silicon Valley for the 2019 edition of the Lions@frica Innovation tour.
Moving on, the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled the North Central region of the country for fibre investors using the Infrastructure Companies (InfraCo) model.
In an effort to simplify service for its 1.3 billion monthly users, Facebook has rolled out the latest version of its Messenger app. The new version was rebuilt to offer a simpler interface and enable easier navigation.
Finally, Alibaba’s cloud-computing arm has opened its first data centers in the U.K., with two sites operational in London. The move comes in response to increased demand for Alibaba Cloud services across the United Kingdom and will enable firms to accelerate their uptake of digital infrastructures.
