WhatsApp is finally implementing a much-requested feature: the ability to edit sent messages.
Users of WhatsApp will now have the option of editing messages as long as they do so within 15 minutes of sending them.
Changed messages will be marked as “edited” in the chat but the edit history will not be displayed.
The new WhatsApp feature comes after Apple’s iMessage made a comparable change last October, allowing users to edit messages up to five times within 15 minutes of sending them.
Editing messages is already possible in competitor apps like Telegram and Signal, and last year, Twitter began rolling out the feature to some users.
By holding down a message for a long time, WhatsApp users can access the edit tool.
WhatsApp stated in a statement, “From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats,”
According to the firm, editing has started to roll out globally and will soon be accessible to all 2 billion users of the app.

In an effort to increase usage and compete with rivals like Signal, WhatsApp recently pushed out a variety of privacy and commerce capabilities for consumers and businesses using the service.
