The call for entries is now open for the Innovate Ghana Innovation Challenge 2025, a competition co‑hosted by Innovate Ghana, Innovate Labs and StArfrica, aimed at identifying energy‑innovation solutions with potential impact in both Ghana and Germany.
The challenge invites Ghanaian individuals, startups, academics and early‑stage businesses to submit propositions across six key focus areas: Decentralised Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Storage & Grid Resilience, Sustainable Cooking Technologies, Energy Efficiency in Buildings & Industry, Green Mobility & EV Infrastructure, and Waste to Energy Solutions.
Eligibility requirements stipulate that each applicant team must be based in Ghana; teams may include international collaboration but must demonstrate commitment to local implementation. A bachelor’s degree or TVET certificate per team member is required to validate innovation capacity.
As part of the support structure, selected finalists will receive mentorship from Ghanaian and German energy experts, technical assistance to develop and test prototypes, and access to the German “EXIST Startup Grant” programme (up to €10,000 funding, plus mentoring and infrastructure for one year) for the strongest submissions.
The initiative reflects accelerating collaboration between Ghana’s innovation ecosystem and European energy‑technology partners and signals a targeted push to address both domestic and global energy‑system challenges through localised innovation.
Submissions are open from 15 October until 15 November 2025, with shortlisted teams invited to a kick‑off workshop in Accra and potential relocation to Germany in partnership with the University of Koblenz and its partners. Final winners will be selected at a pitch event scheduled for January 2026.
