A new electric SUV from General Motors (GM) was just unveiled, and it’s expected to be the most cost-effective compact electric SUV on the market once it’s released to the public in just a year.

At a base price of roughly $30,000, the Chevrolet Equinox EV will be one of the most affordably priced EVs on the market.

Of course, the Equinox EV’s base price of $30,000 would apply just to the most basic model with no added extras.

Edmunds.com estimates that the base price of the typical electric vehicle on the market today is around $47,500.

When measured from the roof to the ground, the Equinox EV is almost three inches narrower and a hair shorter than the gas-powered version.

It doesn’t have a front trunk like some electric cars do.

Instead, the front electric motor and electronics equipment are located under the hood.

According to Scott Bell, GM’s vice president for Chevrolet, the company’s designers, and engineers chose to focus their time and resources on improving the interior of the vehicle rather than trying to make space under the hood.

Two-tone paint jobs will be an option for the Equinox EV, following a long-standing tradition in the industry.

Customers purchasing the sportier-looking RT versions will be able to select a black roof with a body of a different color, while those purchasing the more conventional LT models will be able to select a white roof with contrast black trim.

The so-called Blazer 1LT, which has a single 210 horsepower engine driving only the front wheels, will be the most affordable model.

On a full charge, it will have a driving range of roughly 250 miles.

Additionally, Equinox EV 1LT SUVs will be offered with all-wheel drive and a range of up to about 280 miles, as well as a greater driving range of up to 300 miles; however, those models are likely to be more expensive.

Two electric motors can produce as much as 290 horsepower in all-wheel-drive models.

The 2LT and sportier-looking RS variants, which come with better features, will have either a 300-mile range or all-wheel drive with a range of up to 280 miles.

The Equinox EV will only be offered with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, unlike the more expensive Blazer EV. Rear-wheel drive will not be an option.
