Major Highlights From 2018 Techpoint Inspired Conference

Techpoint Inspired, a day tech conference that brings industry leaders, innovators, engineers, developers, designers, and tech enthusiasts together to explore the tech trends that will shape Nigeria’s future in the years ahead. The event which is aimed at providing a platform for business opportunities and relationships debuted in 2017 registered over 1200 tech enthusiasts in Nigeria.

Organised by Techpremier Media Limited, publishers of Techpoint.ng in partnership with FCMB, ManageEngine, Netcore, MainOne and host of others. The event attracted over 5000 participants from different parts of the country and other Africa countries. This year’s conference was themed “The future is now” and the conversations were centred around various aspects of technology, need for technology in Nigeria and future of technology in Nigeria.

 

Creating a Sustainable Future

One of the highlights was the session tagged ‘Creating a Sustainable Future’. The session featured Rolayo Akhigbe, Divisional Head, Transactional Banking at First City Monument Bank (FCMB) as the speaker. Rolayo elucidated about using technology to create a sustainable future and how technology has changed the way people live, learn, communicate and execute assignments, improved education and increase awareness to drive innovations in the ecosystem.

THE BANK AND FINTECH

This panel session featured Adebanjo Omokehinde; Country Director of Mastercard, Deji Oguntonade; Divisional Head for FinTech & Innovation in GTBank, Tosin Eniolorunda; Founder & CEO, TeamApt, Julius Wanyaga; Head, Digital Banking Transformation at FCMB, Adedeji Olowe; Co-Founder of Open Banking and Oluwatosin Olaseinde who moderated the session.

The panel debated on the topic “The Consumer, the bank and Fintech”, and agreed that Fintech startups and established banks should partner in the industry to achieve a common goal. At the end of the session, they all concluded that the future of banking in Nigeria is easier, open, faster, digital, powered by Fintech and optimized for the consumer.

Thinking Differently: Ideas Create Future

Dr. Richard Ikiebe of Centre for Leadership in Journalism, Pan-Atlantic University, reminded the participants at the event that Nigeria is a country of very young people. Young people are known for creativity which connects with the theme of the conference.

“Seek knowledge, display passion and master the niche you have carved for yourself. Though knowledge is limited, but you have opportunity to reinvent them,” Dr. Ikiebe said.

Why Techpoint Inspired

The Convener, and CEO Techpoint, Adewale Yusuf, stated that the platform was borne out of the need to explore the tech-trends that will shape the economy’s future of Nigeria in the years ahead.We need to address these issues. That according to Adewale is the essence of Techpoint Inspired.
