The second cohort of the Google for Startup Black Founders Fund for Africa has opened for applications, with 60 eligible black-founded startups poised to receive a total of US$4 million in funding.
In October, fifty founders were awarded equity-free capital, and Google has stated that for the second edition, it will raise its involvement with an extra US$1 million in funding and support for ten more founders.
A total of $4 million will be committed to 60 qualifying black-founded startups across Africa.
Selected startups will get non-dilutive financial rewards ranging from $50,000 to $100,000, as well as up to $200,000 in Google Cloud credits, training, and access to a network of mentors to help them resolve the issues that each startup faces.
The Black Founders Fund Africa is open to startups in Botswana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe that meet the eligibility criteria.
While these 13 countries are the primary focus because of their vibrant tech and startup ecosystems, outstanding submissions from other African countries will be considered as well.
The deadline for applications is May 31st, and the winners will be announced on July 29th.
