The Nigerian Communications Commission has fined 9mobile, Globacom, Airtel and MTN a total of $205,394.04 for violating regulations.
Earlier in 2018, the NCC listed few noncompliance by the network providers such as; the routing of a minimum of 10 per cent of interconnect traffic, through interconnect exchange licensees; quality of service; approval. They were fined for SIM registration infractions, unapproved promos and advertisements and failure to provide information on collapsed towers. They were given a deadline of 14th September 2018 to pay $166,536.
This year however, 9mobile was fined f $11,10.40 for two different promotions; “My 9mobile App and ZTE MF910 4 G Mi-Fi promotions” that didn’t get approval.

Airtel was charged for promoting an unapproved advert.
Globacom was fined $5,551.20 for an unapproved advert tagged ‘Enjoy non-stop browsing this season of love.’ For its ‘E-Top-Up 8X Bonus’ promo, $11 102.40 for the two infractions. And for its failure to provide information regarding its collapsed masts in two sites situated in Jalingo, Taraba State. Making a total of $5 551.20
MTN was charged $5 551.20 for not seeking regulatory approval for promotion. MTN had earlier fallen out with Central Bank of Nigeria in the past and they were fined 8.1 billion USD in 2018 for the transfer of 8.1 billion dollars to the abroad. A breach of foreign-exchange regulations.
