Uganda to Strengthen Security with Biometric System

Gemaito, a Digital Security Company in Uganda has supplied Cogent Automated Biometric Identification System (CABIS) and LiveScan technology to the Ugandan Police.

This solutions will enable the Ugandan Police solve crimes better via electronic collection, storage and processing of fingerprints, palm prints and facial captures. The LiveScan will be spread in police stations and courts nationwide. It will also allow capture of the subject’s mugshot, biometric data and biographical data. ISSUl will assist with the installation, project support and maintenance.

CABIS is set to all the police pick distinct characteristic in fingerprints, palm prints and face images, which they will use to boost the matching process. This system allows forensic specialist to use the client tools to confirm identities, and establish factual evidence that will help convict guilty individuals.

Muhirwa Rogers, Police Undersecretary for the Uganda Police Force said “Reliable biometric data is an extremely powerful tool for identifying individuals and bringing offenders to justice. Investment in Gemalto CABIS and LiveScan technology is the latest step forward in the modernization not just of Ugandan law enforcement, but our wider homeland security infrastructure.” He said

Tommi Nordberg SVP, EMEA Government Programs for Gemalto also said “Gemalto CABIS, LiveScan and Mobile ID technology reinforce the efforts of Ugandan police to tackle crime. Highly scalable and interoperable, our solutions not only meet the current requirements of the Ugandan authorities, but can grow and develop in line with their future demands.” He said.
