The weekend was filled with quite a lot of interesting tech news across Africa as well as International scene. Here are some of the news. Let’s begin.
In the early hours of Monday 5th November, the Google Impact Challenge finalists were announced in three African countries where the finale of the Challenge will take place later this month. The countries include South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.
Kenyan based Venture Capitalist company, Novastar Ventures has launched a new $72.5 million fund called Novastar II. The aim of the fund is to invest in innovative businesses providing solutions to problems in few regions of Anglophone African countries.
Nine African Fintech Start-ups to Participate in Catapult: Inclusion Africa Bootcamp… The bootcamp is targeted at fintech start-ups that that are focused on financial inclusion and keen to establish a link between Africa and Europe. The bootcamp will hold on 5th and 9th of November in Luxembourg.
During the weekend also, Twitter weeded out over 10,000 accounts for trying to discourage people from participating in the midterm elections in US. Twitter spokesman said that the company has took the action after the Democratic party found misleading tweets that appeared to be discouraging people from voting in the forthcoming election.
There might be impending doom for DStv as its South African subscribers has threatened to cancel their account if the company increases its subscription prices in 2019.
This was contained in a survey report conducted by MyBroadband in October 2018 and it was taken by 7,036 readers of the medium, and tech-savvy in South African.

For using digital technology to help Nigerian young girls, Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin has been selected as one of the CNN top 10 2018 Heroes. Abisoye uses her organization, Pearls Africa Foundation to teach disadvantaged young girls in Nigeria how to code.
