Libyan Ed-tech Start-up, Elham Wins Seedstars Tripoli… Libyan based Ed-tech start-up, Elham Inspire has been announced winner of 2018 edition of the Seedstars World challenge in the Tripoli pitch event. With this win, Elham will be pitching for US$1 million in equity investment at the global final in 2019.
Nine African Start-ups, 2 Others Emerge Finalists at the Ecobank Fintech Challenge 2018… The leading independent Pan-African banking group, Ecobank has announced 9 African fintech start-ups and two international ones for the 2nd edition of the annual Ecobank Fintech Challenge.
The 11 start-ups are; Lypa (Kenya), Wallet.ng (Nigeria), Nala (Tanzania), Litee (Benin), SESO Global (South Africa), InvestED (Sierra Leone), Eversend (France), Secapay (Nigeria), Virtual Identity (South Africa), MojiPay (Togo), Awamo (Germany).
Jack Ma Launches $10m African Entrepreneurs Prize… The Executive Chairman and Alibaba founder, Jack Ma has unveiled a new contest called the “Jack Ma Foundation ‘Netpreneur’ Prize for African entrepreneurs. This challenge will see African entrepreneurs compete for $10 million in funding with the aim of supporting businesses that are growing the continent’s nascent digital economy.
Google Update its Maps, Accurately Depicts Earth’s Shape and Size… American multinational technology, Google has introduced a new feature to its Maps. The Earth will no longer be displayed as a flat surface when you zoom all the way out, but as a globe. This change will allow the map to display the Earth accurately.
Mobile payment platform based in Nigeria, Paga Achieves Nine Million User Milestone… Since its establishment in 2012, the fintech company has processed 57 million transactions worth N941 billion ($3.6 billion) and have reached profitability. It took 6 months to grow from 7 million to 8 million customers, and 4 months to get to 9 million.

2018 iPhones May Face Delays as Chip Manufacturers Suffer Computer Virus Outbreak… Manufacturer of chips for iPhones, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), has suffered a computer virus outbreak and said that it could cause shipment delays.
According to CNBC, the virus affected large number of computer systems and fab tools that are required in the chip-making process. TSMC said there could be delays to product shipments, adding that it would reduce third quarter revenue by 3 percent, or $255 million, from its previous guidance.
